Apiculture in Croatia has a long tradition and is of great importance for the economy and the ecosystem. No lexicographic reference covers the most important terms of this branch of agricultural production. The need is expressed by experts, beekeepers, specialised translators, journalists, pharmacists, food technologists and other professions. The project responds both to the scientific need to systematise terminology and to practical labour-market demands.
Methodology
- Review and analysis of scientific and technical literature on apiculture in Croatian.
- Review of popular-science literature and online portals, with attention to official terminology.
- Compilation and lemmatisation of a corpus by semantic fields (bee anatomy, honey plants, beekeeping equipment, etc.).
- Drafting of lexicographic definitions in Croatian and English.
- Lexicographic treatment of equivalents in five target languages (EN, DE, FR, ES, IT).
- Publication of a six-language dictionary in print and digital form, extending the microstructure to additional languages.
Objectives
- Analyse Croatian scientific bibliography on apiculture and its use in popular sources.
- Build a lemma list of basic apicultural terms by semantic fields.
- Treat terms lexicographically with Croatian as source and English as first target language.
- Publish a six-language lexicographic reference.
- Digitise the work and extend the microstructure with other languages of the research team.
