Digital corpus for a (multilingual) usage dictionary of Croatian.
In the field of teaching Croatian as a second and heritage language, there is no bilingual usage dictionary structured according to the CEFR that could serve as a macrostructure for language acquisition. Since most learners are of Hispanic origin and groups are linguistically and culturally heterogeneous, a multilingual lexicographic tool of the usage type is needed — an active dictionary with frequent and memorable structures.
Methodology
- Review of textbooks for teaching Croatian as a foreign language and multilingual glossaries.
- Review of general and multilingual Croatian dictionaries, with attention to school dictionaries.
- Analysis of the CEFR to determine parameters of lexical competence.
- Building and lemmatising the dictionary corpus for the didactic dictionary.
- Lexicographic treatment and microstructure design.
- Drafting of dictionary examples following active-dictionary criteria and preparation for digitisation.
Objectives
- Investigate and analyse manuals for teaching Croatian as a foreign language.
- Analyse general and school dictionaries of Croatian.
- Describe the differences between the standard language, dialects and colloquial register.
- Build and lemmatise a digital dictionary corpus for multilingual dictionaries aimed at learning Croatian.
